Clean Energy Initiative

The village in Offuman has no access to a constant supply of power. The government of Ghana has neglected the expansion of the electricity grids to areas that are not heavily populated.

As our Harvest school is located a mile and a half away from Offuman village in Techiman North constituency, the government of Ghana could not extend electricity to the school premises as well.

Solar power will be used to pump off water from the borewell project which we have already completed.

Continuous electricity at our school premises will deter the night breeding of mosquitoes, which carry malaria or yellow fever, a constant problem.

Establishing a clean power source at the school will motivate kids to come to our library to study after six o'clock and have access to some visual learning materials which require electricity to operate. It will be used to charge tablets and operate computers for learning at school.

Currently, our teachers take all portable devices with learning material to their homes to charge them overnight.

We are seeking help to bring solar energy power to the school premises as a source of electricity.

The cost of Solar panels in Ghana :

  • Polycrystalline solar panels cost between $100 - $250 USD (GH₵ 560 - GH₵ 1390).

  • Monocrystalline solar panels cost between $150 - $350 USD (GH₵ 830 - GH₵ 1950). Most organizations buy Monocrystalline panels as they last longer.

  • Installation charges of panels and batteries are $1500 USD (GH₵ 8340).

Our school compound requires 5 Solar panels to make the classrooms and bore well operable.
